Flexibility
Working virtually as an Occupational Therapist (OT) in a school setting can offer several benefits, both for the SLP and the students they serve. Here are some advantages of this arrangement:
Increased flexibility: Virtual OTs often have more flexibility in terms of setting their own schedules. They can choose to work during hours that suit their personal preferences and can better balance their work and personal life.
Reduced commuting time and costs: By working remotely, OTs can avoid the daily commute to school sites, saving time and money on transportation expenses.
Access to a wider range of students: Virtual OTs may have the opportunity to work with students from various locations and backgrounds, including those in rural or underserved areas where access to in-person services might be limited.
Enhanced technology use: Working virtually allows OTs to leverage various technological tools, such as video conferencing, teletherapy platforms, and digital assessments, to enhance their therapy sessions and provide more engaging and interactive experiences for students.
Increased job opportunities: Virtual positions can open up opportunities for OTs to work for schools or districts outside of their immediate geographic area, potentially leading to more job options and the chance to work with diverse populations.
Better work-life balance: Virtual OTs often have more control over their schedules, making it easier to juggle personal commitments, family responsibilities, and self-care.
Professional growth and development: Working virtually requires adaptability and proficiency in utilizing digital tools, which can enhance the OT's technological and professional skills.
Reduced exposure to illnesses: By working remotely, OTs may have less exposure to common illnesses that can spread within school settings, leading to fewer sick days and a healthier work environment.
Environmental impact: Remote work can help reduce the carbon footprint associated with commuting, as well as the overall resource consumption in a physical workspace.
Collaboration opportunities: Virtual OTs may have the chance to collaborate with other professionals in the field of teletherapy and share best practices, leading to a supportive and innovative community.
At ProCare Therapy, our mission is to make life better for those who make life better. If you have experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting, we want to hear from you!
